About Vice Chancellor

Prof. M. Vijaya Kumar , Professor of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA), assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor In-Charge of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Andhra Pradesh, on 20th January 2023. He is an erudite professor, renowned teacher, and eminent researcher who aspires to harness science and technology to improve community life.

Prof. Kumar received his B.Tech. (Electrical & Electronics Engineering) in 1988, Master's in Electrical Machines & Industrial Drives from NIT, Warangal in 1990, and Ph.D. from JNTU Hyderabad in 2000. He joined JNTU College of Engineering Anantapur as a faculty member in October 1992 and has extensive experience spanning three decades in teaching, research, and administration.

Between 2006 and 2008, he served as the Head of the EEE Department. He was the Founder Registrar of JNTUA and played a critical role in establishing the University, streamlining procedures of Directorates between 2008 and 2010. He has held various roles such as Director of Foreign Affairs & Alumni Matters (2013–2015), Director of Admissions (2015–2018), Director of Academic and Planning (2018–2019), and Registrar for two terms (2008–2010 and 2019–2021). Currently, he is the Rector of JNTUA since 2021.

Prof. Kumar has successfully conducted AP Engineering, Agricultural & Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (APEAPCET) 2022 as Convener. He also served as National Executive Council Member of ISTE, New Delhi, and represented JNTUA in international collaborations with institutions in Australia, the UK, and Germany.

His research interests include Industrial Drives, Power Electronics, Instrumentation & Renewable Energy Sources. He has guided 39 Ph.D. scholars, supervised over 100 M.Tech projects, and published more than 130 research papers in reputed journals. He has completed 2 projects funded by AICTE and UGC and received awards from The Institution of Engineers (India) for best papers and the AP State Government's Best Teacher Award in 2015.

NPTEL Examinations Successfully Conducted at RGUKT Over 10,300 Students Participated
Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) has successfully conducted the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) examinations across its four campuses — Nuzvid, RK Valley, Srikakulam, and Ongole. The examinations held on May 5, 2025, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 10,300 students, marking a remarkable milestone. NPTEL is a prestigious national initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with leading institutes like IITs and IISc. The programme aims to make world-class technical education accessible to everyone through online courses. The successful conduct of this examination was made possible by the collaborative efforts of NPTEL coordinators, faculty, technical teams, and administrative staff at all four campuses. The students showed commendable coordination and discipline during the examination process. On this occasion, RGUKT Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Kotha Madhu Murthy, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vijaya Kumar, Registrar Prof. Sandra Amarendra Kumar, Campus Directors, Administrative Officers, and Deans congratulated the students on their achievement. They also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the faculty and mentors, stating that students will be further encouraged to actively participate in national-level educational programs like NPTEL. Designed by IIT Madras, these courses are especially valuable for engineering students to enhance their technical skills. Irrespective of their syllabus or academic branch, students can gain additional knowledge and skills aligned with modern technological requirements through NPTEL.
