STUDENTS EXPERIENCE IN NASA ISDC

S.Krishna Bhavana, K.Akhil Raj Kumar and K.Kusuma Priya attended the International Space Development Conference (ISDC), 2012 and presented their projects. These three students achieved Students Achievement Award. And their experiences in the conference are expressed here.

Zooming into the stratosphere for the first time filled our hearts with more excitement and left everlasting impressions in our lives. The most exciting thing was stepping into such a great conference to launch our innovative ideas of dream projects in presence of many great scientists. Searching a new itinerary to bring out our hidden talents, the superiors of National Space Society symbolized Indian astronauts Rakesh Sharma, Kalpana Chawla and Sunitha Williams as the icons of space excellence in the Introductory session as we dreamt and desired to construct a permanent space settlement. Our confidence and energy levels were accelerated as soon as they referred to the names of the three Indian astronauts, Ah! what a proud moment for us ? As we explore for the traces of knowledge from the words conceived in minds of eminent scientists, we accomplished our thoughts with a much enthusiasm and pride of representing a great Nation on a global stage.

Mr. Al Globus, an eminent scientist and NSS member, has been the organizer of NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest for the past 19 years. And He accompanied us to the Gala party held in Air & Space Museum where Senator John Glenn and Commander Carpenter were felicitated with Space Pioneer Awards. We had great conversations with many delegates at the Gala Party. We went around the Air & Space Museum and saw many space concern objects including the specimens of Modules, Capsules and Spacecrafts in which the astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin explored the space. Its really a wonderful experience for us to be with the great astronauts and scientists. We were very much inspired by the message of Stephen Hawking, a great scientist and Buzz Aldrin, an astronaut.

Tim pickens, the guest speaker, gave his speech on Hobby to Moon and his experience while participation in Google x-prize. He briefed about the construction of vehicles to launch on the Moon and to create a platform which will minimize the burden of earth in the production of fuels and power. There we were presented with Student Achievement Award certificates in the Awards Presentation Ceremony as we were bejeweled in the necklace of prize winners. We gave explanation about our projects to the visitors. We attended the Lunar Track where we shared our ideas about the settlement on Moon.

On Sunday we gave our presentation for which we were applauded and appreciated by the delegates and also answered their questions. We attended the Mars Track and listened to the speech of Bruce, an eminent scientist. That was a very fruitful session where we came to know about previous Mars explorations, future economic plans to send rovers to mars.

We attended the session of Artificial General Intelligence where Ben Goertzel, CEO of AI Organization and Paul, a scientist of AI delivered their lectures. We had a good association with Mr. Ben. He explained about Brain Slicing Technology, which includes the process of slicing the human brain to study the anatomy of brain cells and to update it to the robots. He gave a detailed description of organizing the Robotic Programme around the globe. He enlightened us about the AI conferences around the world in the coming years . He also mentioned about us and our presentation in a popular magazine and even posted our photograph in it.

We spent a lot of time with David Dunlop, NSS Committee Member, discussing Space Ventures and Planetary Defense. We went around various stalls and came to know about various other international competitions. In the closing luncheon ceremony Al Globus gave us precious suggestions for future projects. He encouraged us to take part in real time professional projects. Mr.John Strickland, a great scientist, explained about economic rover launching plans and his attachment with Indian co scientist Gopala Swamy.

Indian scientists and Astronauts were highly respected in the conference. In fact no speech was delivered without mentioning the name of our former president Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam as he is going to play a key role in NASA's prestigious Solar Cells Project.

We went around Washington D.C to visit Empire State Building, White House, Federal Triangle Judiciary Building, Library of Congress, Air & Space Museum, Smith Sonian University and Art and Rock Sculpture Museum.
